Foreigners Detained in Poland for Document Fraud and Illegal Stay

Border Guard officers from Gorzów Wielkopolski detained three foreigners, two of whom tried to deceive officials to obtain documents necessary for working in Poland. The third overstayed his visa by nearly a year and used a forged driver’s license during a roadside check.

At the end of August, Border Guard officers from the Gorzów Wielkopolski station, operating in the Słubice district, stopped a 25-year-old Moldovan. During the check, the foreigner used a passport with altered personal information, knowing that he had already been issued a ban on entering the Schengen area. The man was illegally staying in the country and did not have documents permitting entry or residence in Poland. The foreigner was detained, and after being transported to the SG station in Gorzów Wielkopolski, his luggage was searched. Additional forged documents were found: a Romanian ID card and a Moldovan driver’s license issued in his name. The suspect was charged with misleading Border Guard officers about his identity. The Moldovan also faced charges of preparing to use forged documents as genuine and of fraudulently deceiving a state official into issuing a document authorizing him to transport hazardous materials. The foreigner admitted to the charges and provided explanations. Until the proceedings regarding his deportation are concluded, the court ordered him to be placed in a guarded center for foreigners.

Thanks to cooperation with officials from the Lubuskie Voivodeship Office, on September 2, officers detained a 38-year-old Nigerian who also tried to deceive an official. The man attempted to fraudulently obtain a temporary residence card with access to the Polish labor market. He attached a photocopy of a forged residence card, made to resemble a genuine one, to his application for temporary residence and work. The suspect was detained and charged with fraudulently deceiving a public official and preparing to use a forged document as genuine. The foreigner did not admit to the charges and provided explanations. The court will decide his fate, and in the meantime, he was placed in a guarded center for foreigners until the decision requiring his return is made.

On September 4, during operations in Kostrzyn nad Odrą, the officers conducted a roadside check of a Ford passenger car driven by a 36-year-old Georgian. It was discovered that the foreigner had overstayed his visa in Poland by nearly a year and presented officers with a forged Ukrainian driver’s license, featuring his image and personal details. The Georgian citizen was detained, and a criminal investigation was launched. He was charged with using a forged document as genuine during the roadside check. The man admitted to the charges, provided explanations, and voluntarily accepted a fine of 3,000 PLN. Additionally, a decision was issued requiring the foreigner to leave the country, which included a two-year ban on re-entering Poland and the rest of the Schengen area.
