Border Guards in Łódź Detain 14 Foreign Nationals for Illegal Stay
Officers from the Border Guard Station in Łódź detained nine Nepalese citizens for lacking documents that would allow them to stay legally in Poland. Additionally, six of them crossed the Polish border from Slovakia in violation of applicable regulations. A few days earlier, five foreigners, including four Filipinos, were detained for illegal residence.
The nine Nepalese individuals were discovered and detained on Tuesday (September 3) in the Kutno area as a result of a check on the legality of their stay. The men were carrying their original passports but did not have valid visas or other residency permits allowing them to legally stay or work in Poland. Instead, they had invalid Croatian short-term visas and revoked Croatian residence permits that were flagged in the system (SIS). In conversations with the officers, they admitted that they were traveling from Croatia, where they initially intended to work, but after a short stay, decided to come to Poland, believing they could find better employment there. Moreover, since arriving in Poland at the end of July, the foreigners had made no attempt to legalize their stay.
In another case, five people were detained in Łódź – four Filipinos and one Moldovan. The detained Filipinos, two women and two men aged 30 to 46, came to Poland to work, also holding Croatian visas and work permits. However, they were unaware that the documents they had were valid only within Croatian territory.
The 20-year-old Moldovan citizen arrived in Poland by bus, traveling legally through Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia on his original passport. He was apprehended by Border Guard officers during a routine check, where it was discovered that he had not left Polish territory after the permitted 180-day stay in the Schengen area had expired.
Since the beginning of this year, officers from the Border Guard Station in Łódź have conducted 500 checks on the legality of stay, resulting in the detention of nearly 250 foreigners who violated residency regulations in Poland.
